So of course I had to test the new formation at 1750 against my nemesis - my friend's Tau list. I have to say it was not pretty. the Flyrants did there best to stay in cover ( Tau can only hurt so many units with markerlights ) turn one and then just flew right into his lines. My Reaperrant ended up taking out both his Riptides, my Harpies and C ( with a shield of Gargs pretty much took out his firewarriors, broadsides and lone hammerhead by turen three. I losy two squads of gargs (which came back) and a Crone. My warriors were by then sitting on the skyshield popping off their shots. I just had to wait for the crisis to come in and tie them up with gargs so my other units could finish them off. Turn four he conceded.
It really is that simple to overrun your opponent. The formation is OP I believe. Yes, we needed a boost. I will not argue that. But the ability to field that many FMCs at 1750 is going to rip a lot of armies apart. Not many lists have the firepower to deal with it. The sad part is that it does not take a whole lot of thought to put together and the tactics are very straightforward - ram your FMCs down your opponents throat.
Here is the thing - you are very unlikely to lose any objective based game. You are very unlikely to lose more than two FMCs before you have really torn into your opponent (I lost one). You are going to get some decent powers tpo play with with three Flyrants. I got a psychic scream, horror and dominion which are not all fantastic but were enough to tilt the game (Tau understandably dislike scream). Honestly, I don't think my opponent could have done much to prevent me from reaching his lines and starting the carnage.
Skyblight formation is game changing for Nids. It is far and away the most powrful of the formations. Respawning scoring jump infantry that cannot be contested? Woot. Seven FMCs at 1750? Crazy. We are now a top tier list. Make no mistake about it. Bring on those Imperial Knights (watcha ya gonna do when FMCs run over you).
