I layed out the mathhammer for hive guards earlier. Came out about one Hull point per round if 9 of them shot from the same side.

They do have the option for haywire, but trying to get them in range for it is just asking to be charged.

I dont think hive guard are an effective answer to knights. He doesnt have to approach you if he doesnt want to and once you leave that 2+ or 3+ cover venomthropes provide, the attrition rate is not in your favor.

If only there was a way to deep strike them

The pyrovore should have been made into an anti-SH unit. Pyrovore shoots a beam - say 24-36" range - we'll call it the "shave and a haircut" attack. So for example the imperial knight has to make a save or it sits down and does nothing for d3 turns waiting for the shave and haircut [ or insert whatever you feel appropriate] to be done. And to keep the pyrovore name relevant, each turn that a super-heavy does nothing roll a die, on a 6 it suffers soul blaze thinking its head is on fire - just for the cool image of an imperial knight running around trying to put its imaginary flaming hair out.

perhaps the next dataslate will grant pyrovores some sort of secondary shooting ability if taken in a formation... like a S8 AP2 assault 3 24" to represent a concentrated acid jet that they can use instead of normal flamespurt.

There will be dataslates for rippers, pyrovores and haruspexes. All will be horrible.

The only way I think they'll improve on the skyblight is deep striking fex broods.

Fexes don't really need too much. Something that gives them FnP, or run-shoot, or run-assault... Or yeah, deep strike with a 5+ save for a turn...
