Greeting Hive Members,

I've been away from the hobby for sometime now with getting married and having my son born just recently. Having bought a house and with the urging of some of my co-workers, I am once again coming back to the hobby. Watch this thread as I will be updating it with my latest renditions of classic Hive Fleet Kraken color scheme periodically. Once again hello all, I'm happy to be back!

That's exciting. Your rendition of kraken is what made me want to paint a similar scheme when I first started nids in 4th.

Fresh out of the lab...first painted tyranid in a few years for me....pretty interesting model....:











I wish I still had all of my old photography stuff...I could take some better pictures....this will do in a pinch I suppose

Yeah kraken I wish the model was illuminated slightly better, but I can't say I'm the least bit disappointed with the quality. Glad you haven't lost your touch =P

Keep it coming!(if you have pics of your old models, I dunno if you still have them, I'm sure some of the newer TTH members would love seeing them).

I looked at the pictures and was surprised how close the Kraken scheme was to mine. Then I realized it was Krakenfiend

Yep...agree about the lighting on the model. That aside, I believe that the new paints I'm using really make softer shadows jump on this model. I really had a lot of fun painting this guy....not assembling though...that part was a pain in the rear. The model was horribly cast with bubbles all over it that required many hours of "fixing". I have 2 more venomthropes that are in the lab...but they are on hold until I can build up the courage to tackle their horrible casting problems.

My next project will be a double twin linked dev Flyrant with forgeworld devs. I have already unboxed him and started the cleanup process (which takes me some time as I am very meticulous with this now-a-days). I will be contemplating the wing membrane color...I'm on the fence about what to do with it. Not sure if I want to make them red (like the carapace) or dark brown...kinda leathery....

After the Flyrant I plan on doing a harpy/crone...then probably a Tyrannofex or Exocrine.

Nice looking Venomthrope!

All 3 of my "finecast" Venomthropes needed a fair bit of fixing too. I avoid finecast whenever I can and hunt down metal versions, but I couldn't find any of these in metal, plus I think getting their arms to stay on would be a bit of a nightmare!

Flyrant in progress....just the initial steps on the wings:





I'm going to go with the leathery look on the wings as will be easier on the eyes and should really pull the model together. That said, I need to go and get paint that I can shoot through my air brush to cover the large surface area of the wings...also...wow the tail on this model is REALLY annoying to patch up...I'm up to 4 coats of Mr. Surfacer 1000 and I still want to put another coat on to smooth is out >.< It's slow going right now but *hopefully* should look pretty sweet when I'm done with it. .

Its interesting to see the with and without flash on the carapace...I am really enjoying the soft transitions the paints I'm using create. I'll keep plugging away at this guy...going to take a while before he is done...the Forgeworld Dev has sooooo much detail!...takes forever to paint it
