Part of our problem why the codex is a fail.

Speaking about the codex today, a few things fall into place. One of the older members of the Stoke branch is regular play tester for the pre release codex's as he has a number of armies they use when the designers want to try out their rules. Well it turns out he basically advised the design team that the NID codex was far too week and he basically walked over their armies, so they kept adding and changing the rules until it became such a mess that they stopped play testing the book. The white dwarf article was done in the released format because it became obvious that things did not work. They even toned down the riptides load out and tailored the report so it looked as if the new NID's could stand up to the best units in the game. it was a lie.

They basically ran out of time to publish the codex. To make it right, they would likely have to start over again, and the old one was already way behind.

So somewhere along the line someone high up forced the release, the Models were obviously ready and the penny counters wanted a return, as it costs to sculpt, and they don't want molds sat there for another 6-12 months. The inventory was in supply or on order, so it had to be pushed out.

Add to this that the reason we don't have the doom or parasite or pod was a hang over of the chapter-house law suit. When that went to court GW decided that they would not be making these models as the cost of the molds and time was too expensive. So the safest way to remove influence from chapter-house, was to make any of the disputed models obsolete. Remove them from the codex.

We already had the design team at Nottingham give interviews saying they would put right the 5th edition codex, i wonder what they are going to say this time.

Given my experience with corporations, this scenario doesn't sound much unlike most product launches whether they be new or upgrade releases. Testing is rushed and pushed through sign off in order to get a return on investment and appease the bean counters and senior management. Who cares about the issues at release, just get it out the door and we'll fix it later. A common mantra in corporate America, apparently it's just as common place in corporate Europe.

One immediate problem I have with this narrative is the number of nerfs our existing stuff got. Hard to square that with this explanation, though admittedly not impossible

Don't for get the points discrepancy. Nids got 184 points more in there list then tau.

How do you make Space Marines and other armies more powerful without getting a new codex? Nerf the Nids.

This is not a complaint, but I don't understand. If Nids get cheaper, how come they loose stats? When Space Marines get cheaper, they don't loose stats, but gain stuff.

This was the most interesting post so far this year, rings true. It's basically the same faulty process that was behind our last Nid codex that was forced out to push the Trygon models. What is the 'Stoke branch' btw?

In my opinion the Codex is a fail because of one single but important fact:

Your Idea of a Nid Army, period.
GW Designers have a different idea of what a Nid Army should look like than some of the (Internet)Players have.

In my mind Nids are an endless swarm of creatures, flooding the battlefield dying like crazy but there is only more to come and drown the enemy in body's of Tyranids.
To me what i read about the codex, and i will wait until i read the codex myself to judge finally, matches my picture of Nids quite good. So i might be happy.
I read people complaining about Hormagaunts and don't understand why. They are 5 points!! So don't await them to be ubber SM Killers! Termagaunts are 4 points what the hell are you awaiting from a unit for four points each? This Codex seems to be designed to drown enemy's in numbers just like the background storys always tell you.

So i believe most people are complaining because there idea is to far away from GW´s idea of how a nid Army should look and act like.

Stoke is a town in England quite close to nottingham (GW HQ) so the stoke branch is probably a GW store

I really dont have a huge issue with what I've read so far. A few things disappoint (HG now BS3, Stealers still poor etc) but some things are better at the same time. I'm liking that lists need a lot more synergy. Looking at it, we need more tactical thinking to keep as much synapse up while we have some much needed stronger firepower in the Exocrine and Haywire is most welcome. Looks like I'll be dropping the Tervigon opening to more options which I'm looking forward to (having choices and not building the same list game after game)

The Stoke branch, is a GW store and has strong links with Nottingham both the World store and the management team/design team of Nottingham.

Its true that we have no real way to prove any of what is listed. Its all based on what others have said, so counts as nothing more than hearsay. However it fits understanding and results. What we do about it as a community that now matters.

I have already advised the store manager at Crewe i will not be purchasing anything with a loss of 2-3 hundred pounds of sales. I will also contact my local independent store, who is a very good friend (also stocks GW, truth its here i would of bought from) and requested him to feed back to his sales rep the dissatisfaction and lost sales. In my circle of players here there are a 4-5 of us that play Nids and all are very unhappy with the outcome, and will not be purchasing anything. Already from one group GW has now lost 7-800 in sales.

Collectively this is the only way any consumer group can register dissatisfaction with the provider. Sharp drop in sales becomes a point raised at board level. And when you hit the board where it hurts, Profit margin, then they want answers. But can we make enough of an impact?
