I'm abandoning my color scheme. (updated)

Like the title says. I am giving up on my current color scheme before I paint too many more. I'm still at only 1/3 of my models painted so stripping them won't be an issue.

As i'm picking up my first EVER Hive Tyrant Models next thursday, I've decided to find a different scheme.

The current thing i'm liking the most is based off this picture.





I'm still, in many many ways, a painting novice and am seeking the advice of more seasoned painters to help me select the proper colors and/or washes to make this scheme a reality.

To clarify, I would use the chest scale color for the carapace, the violet for the skin, the darker purple with a faint shade of violet for the claws/scything talons/etc. and the green for all the extra bits that go on.

That's a very striking scheme, I was thinking of using something similar myself. But I am also a novice painter, so I have no real suggestions for you other than search the boards here for tutorials and links, and look on youtube as well. I found a couple informative videos there so far.

Rethinking the placement of the colors, I'd also like to try the green for the carapace as well and use the bone white for the chest down area. To mimic the chest scaled effect while not under-utilizing the green color that is a major part of Spike the Dragon.

Hard to say. I need to actually see a gaunt or what ever you painted to see. What looks awesome on a pic or what not sometimes doesn't translate well to painting it on an actual Tyranid mini.

I havn't attempted this yet as I lack the paints for it. I also have no idea what paints would make these colors a reality.

Found a picture with the kind of carapace I want. Kinda like that. The bleached bone look. As for the skin, I'm still searching for the right shade of purple.

I guess it would depend on hoe bright the green on weather or not it's made or broken.

Nice colours to pick. For your bleached bone/brown carapace, are you going to dip them? I seen something like this before, and the person dipped them for speed.

I don't think drybrushing green onto the bone carapace will give me the desired effect. need to see if there is a nice light green wash/shade I can use.

It works. Good job. I didn't think it could be pulled off, but that is one very nice looking gaunt.

Can't wait to see a Warrior or bigger Nid now.

Eeyup. I'm happy with this new scheme. I'm going to be stripping my other models next month so I can paint them up again. In the meantime, I have some Tyrants to paint up.

These are the last pictures i'll be posting in this thread. Some time later I am going to post the official relaunch of my Hive Fleet as I strive to repaint them.

I'm aware the tyrant doesn't have a weapon option on him atm. I'm currently magnet-less and am kicking myself in the head for even painting this thing before I had the magnets to keep him flexible weapon wise. I'm gonna end up gluing the common Twin Linked Devourer substitute weapons you get from the Tervigon kit. It will be a permanent devil-flyrant.
