hi guys,

I'm trying a new scheme something similar to the blue crab.

I'm going for something faster, because my big nids take half a year to paint.

what do you guys think. first or second?





I think the second it better. but layering again and again takes to much time. maybe someone has a good fast way of doing layers ?

I prefer the first, the second has too much contrast. I think the first will make a great colour scheme. The bright blue of the carapace goes very well with the brown skin. I like tyranids when there is a natural earthy or fleshy colour going with a bright colour, like that blue

i like the second but if your going to do it across the whole army it will take awhile, the first would be a lot quicker across an an army

If you wanted the raised skin to be lighter (i.e. the second picture) I'd recommend a lighter brown basecoat than the one used. It just looks a bit odd having that dark brown base then an almost white colour immediately on top of it

this is primed white and washed.

Looks pretty good. One issue with the washing over white that I've had is getting consistent coverage; I tried this method on some orks and it seemed a little spotty (granted, they're orks, so it wasn't too bad or out of character).

Side note - what white primer do you use? I've tried a couple and been less than impressed so far.

i used a 3 year old GW white primer can.

as for the spots, i now use a pledge wax protection liquid for wood floors to thin down the inks. this reduces spotting and striping. this was 1 part water 1 part Vallejo brown ink and 1 part pledge extra protection wax. you still need to make sure the model has no dust or other small debris on it.

The third one is the best. The wash lies better than it did in the first picture

Agreed with Evan.

I think the first image has the obvious look of being washed/shaded and calling it a day. The second one looks better, but you lose most of the orange-blue contrast. And the third image... because there's no blue carapace, I find it impossible to imagine it in relation to the other images.

I think either is fine, but if time is the issue, the first would probably be the least work for you.

what parts do you guys think i should use, what do you think looks cool? talons? venom canon? antenna head?

It's personal preference. If your just going for looks build it the way you think looks cool.
