Hive Fleet Scylla - Repainting for the third time!

Alright, I have about 5500 points of Tyranids (plus a hierodule) and I've finally started painting them, I'm on a roll! So I'd thought I'd start a Plog here

Last week I painted my 1000 point army for a couples-tournament, fighting along side my friends awesome Orks. Our team ended up in 8th place out of 10 so quite bad but we were happy, first 6th edition tourney and our third 40k tourney ever so felt alright (especially when considering we were playing some of Swedens ETC players).

Enough rambling! Here's my army!

30 Hormagaunts, 36 Termagaunts, 10 Dakka-gaunts (devourers), Flyrant, Tervigon, Mawloc/Trygon, all based and ready for tournament. Only final highlight of grey needed on the bases on the big fellows.

And a shot from the tournament when we fought imperial guard (footslogger, not a single vehicle) and fought along side the short edges, it was just awesome. It was all very VERY Starship Troopers

Thanks man! I'm glad to have found a simple yet nice looking scheme, goes fast too, this army was painted in just over a week

I prime the models in Army Painter Skeleton Bone, then I paint the claws and carapace Mephiston Red, pick out eyes, tongues and such in scorpion green, joints/wing membranes in solar macharius orange and then I dip the model in Army Painter Strong Tone.

Fast and efficient and looks perfectly alright on the battlefield

haha but it doesn't look too bad, I personally would do a little highlighting to the carapace first though, because even dipped the surface looks pretty flat

I have about 2-3 weeks to paint this stuff up:

Walking dakka-tyrant with 1 Tyrant Guard with him

It will be a 2000p tournament with max 450p of flying things (only restriction in the tournament except for daemons of tzeentch who have a minor restriction). My list is as follows:

Hive Tyrant
wings, twin linked devourers, old adversary, biomancy

Hive Tyrant
armoured shell, twin linked devourers, old adversary, hive commander, biomancy and 1 Tyrant Guard for this fellow

3 Zoanthropes (not sure wether to split them into 3 units of 1 or just play 3)


26 Hormagaunts with toxin sacs (the ability to outflank these bad boys is just ace!)

20 Termagaunts with devourers in a mycetic spore

11 Termagaunts

Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs, Catalyst, Onslaught, Crushing Claws and Cluster Spines

I seriously don't understand what people are whining about when it comes to hormagaunts, I think they're just plain awesome!

We'll see if this list can compete in the tournament

I like the results you're getting with the dip: do you actually "dip" the whole model, or paint it on with a brush? Drip-dry, or shake?
I'm a big fan of Army Painter sprays, but have had a couple of ugly fails with the quickshade!

I never dip the whole model, always paint the dip on the model, I find it works better

After everything is dipped and anti-shined I'm going to go over everything again, highlight and feather so the army looks better on the table.

Got this girl assembled yesterday


She will be primed this morning and painted tonight (after I've been to see the Hobbit, woohoo!)


Also started a little work on a mycetic spore. For the next tourney I'm playing 20 dakkagaunts in a spore so I needed to build one.

Here's step 1, use the base from the barbed hierodule and a toilet roll.


Yeah, not very impressive..

So on to step 2, FOAM!


Now it looks better! We'll have to see how it hardens today while I'm at work

Alright, I didn't finish everything before Janurary (so failed the painting competition) but the tournament doesn't start until tomorrow so I've had everything done by then.
So far the army is looking as follows:











I'm happy that I decided to paint the bellies and claws on tervigons purple, I will most likely to the same to the Flyrants wings in the future, purple looks goooood

Today I need to fix up some bases, make the spawning part of the tervies bellies gross and sticky, as well as finish my spore pod

Looking good! I agree, I think the purple accent is pretty wicked.
