What to do with my hive guard

I was actually just checking out the CCB, and lamenting how my gargs can't touch it.

But then again, Hguard against AV13 are not so great either, and the flyer transports aren't going down to HGuard either.

They are a nice combo with Enfeeble, but that means 1) you also get enfeeble 2) your opponent is running some 2W biker/cav unit 3) you don't have other answers to this. (tervifex for example)

We will have to see how the meta pans out, but while HGuard are good, and I don't see 6 HG ever being a 'bad' choice; I am not convinced that we will need that many with the other solutions we now have.

One unit of Hive Guard is still a very solid (and cheap) unit to field, regardless of foe's composition. 150 points for 6 cover-ignoring Str 8 shots? No need to spam them anymore, but don't go crazy and starting converting them.

Having played for ages, I know the feeling--some change comes out and the old units seem less useful and destined to just sit in the model cabinet never getting played. We can be tempted to convert them, but on the whole it's best to just hang on to them and grow the whole force.

Like my Lictor Brood. They're waiting patiently for the 6th edition codex, where they will be fixed (I have no doubts about that one--ask anyone, 'Nid player or not and they agree that Lictors need to be more Lictor-y... Lictorious... Lictorlicious... um, you know). Just takes some time and patience while they sit the bench.

Transports were UBER in 5th edition, now they are still very good for the points. I can't see anyone to reduce the number of them (I ignore army that were dedicated to spam transports).

By adding AG they get a S boost to S4. Against the rear AV10 of most transports, they can get glances. Using averages:
27 attacks, 18 hits, 3 glances.. one dead transport. Assuming you were able to surround the vehicle, the models inside cannot get out, and thus all die.

I agree with others, a brood of HG is still a solid choice, just don't need to spam them.

I can tell you that transports are still good at protecting units from psychic powers. I think we may see a reduction in mechanized forces, but not as much as the chicken littles on the internet predict. Psychic power combos and guns are useless when there are no legitimate targets.

Reading the other forums to see what the other races are thinking of the 6th, and you will find that most are still saying that whilst fliers are a problem, most will still be taking a few vehicles. I expect there will always be a place for the hive guard. And dont forget the Nob bikers, they are T5 now but drop an enfeeble on them and bang we can instant kill them again.

Remember we have always been a force that needed to fight as a whole. And with cover becoming less but so much easier to get, those HG will still be in the mix.
