It's a 3d printer for 10-year olds, and costs like 3 Xbox 360s. It says so on the site. No thanks, I'll stick to Carnifex kits.

Considering 3D printers are crazy expensive (20-40K), this really is pretty amazing. I'll be keeping an eye on it's progress.

It does seem interesting. I wonder how big of an object it can make.... And if it's really designed for 10 hear olds in it's simplicity..... I would worry about the amount of detail and/or options on what you can build. It could be very limited with what you can build unless it accepts designs from outside sources. I would imagine it has a great deal of "prebuilt" parts in the software that can be assembled to build the custom toys you can print out..... And that's about it. Remember, it's target audience is 10 year olds... Not hobbyists wanting to custom sculpt miniatures.

I suppose one could always drop an email to the company making it with a suggestion for custom software that could mAke it more versatile... If they don't allready have it included.

3D Printers have been coming down in price slowly. There are a few that you can find for less than $1000. They generally have fairly poor resolution though.

I'm surprised I haven't seen mention of the RepRap project. It's an open source 3D printer that uses cheap electronics and can produce some of its own parts. I'm not sure what exactly it costs to get one set up.

Now the problem with 3d printing, is that people here think about it in the wrong way. You do not print your own "bits" with it, to get the most out of it, you make a single multi layer mold frame. That way you get a perfect mold to use for castin parts in which in turn will save ya alot. Now you would probably go: "but hey dun that mold degrade after a while...", well yes it will. But remember this 3d printing is not limited to the material we are thinking about here, are 3d "printers" that work in metal, a aluminium or steel mold would not cost all that much really, and would probably last you way longer then you want to play with your figures

But i heard that those molds they use for resin only is good for about 10 - 20 casts?
