... or lack thereof.
Having looked at the Assassins in the new Codex, I must say - they've been depowered.
Now, there are arguments to be made (and I'd like to discuss them) but my first impression is that they're less powerful then before. Yes, their stat line has become insanely good. They all gained Move Through Cover and Fleet. Their abilities have become more refined. Etcetera... But I think they've lost many of the things which I think made them a) popular and b) powerful.
Vindicare: Lost ability to pick out *anyone* on the battlefield and kill - now can only assign wounds to specific model in unit he shoots at. Lost having to roll Nightsight in order to shoot at him. Lost ability to -1 from opponent's cover saves. Lost bonus Night Sight range. Gained unlimited Special Ammo. Gained BS 8. Kept Infiltrate, Stealth.
Overall: Worse.
Callidus: Lost Poison Blades. Lost "Word in your Ear". Gained WS 8. Gained D6 Str 4 AP 2 hits when she appears. Gained Instant Death on C'Tan blade. Gained Hit and Run (although pretty much had that).
Overall: Better.
Culexus: Lost forcing opponent to made Leadership test to charge him. Lost Psyk-Out Grenades. Lost Psychic Abomination. Lost Soulless. Lost Psyker Assassin. Lost Life Drain. Lost Infiltrate. Gained BS 8 - and is walking around in an army of Psykers so his 12" range Str 5 AP 1 gun is *godlike* now.
Overall: Much worse, except within 12".
Eversor: Didn't actually get to look too long at him, too distracted by how much they killed the Culexus... But I did notice he doesn't have Infiltrate anymore - so he has to deploy/walk around normally, kind of like Mephiston. Except without a 2+ Save or Toughness 6. One missile and one failed 4+ and he's dead.
Overall: Worse.
In the end, Callidus is crazy-good. Her Polymorphine is what Deathleaper's appearance rules *should* have been, although that's some wishful thinking. Vindicare is alright - he'll do his job well as always... and now probably hit all the time as he should... Eversor - if he gets into combat he'll do alright. Culexus... sigh... he's simply a very short range gun platform now, not the "anti-psyker assassin" he is supposed to be. Get the Jokero to add 12" to his range and he becomes much more useful but still...
