Acutal size of Tyranid Vanguard Drone Ship?

I'm looking for the actual dimensions (feet, meters, etc.) of Tyranid ships from BFG. Specifically I'm looking for the size of a Vanguard Drone Ship.

Looking though some of the reference material didn't give me any useful size reference, so I thought I'd ask BFG players and Tyranid-lore enthusiasts if they could point me in the right direction or at least give me a good 'educated guess' on the actual sizes of these ships.

Sorry, but there's no way of telling. I don't think there's been an official size chart or anything (unless you want to use that unofficial one that says your average imperial escort is 30 times the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer)

It could be anything as no two tyranid ships are supposed to be the same. Why did you want to know?

Well, according to this wikipedia entry (link) a Tyranid Leviathan Hive Ship is roughly the size of an Imperial Battleship, although they can get bigger.

And according to this 40 wiki (link) an Imperial Battleship is about 8km long.

I don't know how big a vanguard Drone Ship is compared to a Leviathan, but at least it's a starting point.

I think they vary, If a small fleet has minimal bio-matter it can't be expected it create a Massive ship, yet in comparision to a fleet that more developed, it may choose to feild Huge ships or smaller ships but in large numbers.

Sea slugs too, there are a lot of invertebrate and even some vertebrate like snakes who simply grow bigger the more they eat, and would continue growing indefinitely if not for dieing of old age or predation.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to make a 'crashed Vanguard Drone Ship' terrain set for use in 40k and want to get a rough idea on the scale. I don't want to make a full crashed ship that takes up 1 quarter of a gaming table when it really should be much bigger.

Since there isn't an assumed size of the Drone Ship, I guess it won't be a problem constructing it to my original idea of quarter-table size.

As a measure of encouragement let me tell you something like this has been done successfully. Someone once created the inside of a Hive ship to be a terrain board, having organs for valleys and hills, ribs for tunnels and the such.

You don't have to have the ship begin and end on the board, you can just have a section of it crossing the board.

The Tyranid vanguard drone is over 2 times bigger than a manta and since the manta is 25 inches long in 40k scale we can deduce that in 40k scale the Tyranid vanguard drone is approximately 60"inches long...

I'd say that the vanguard ship is at least four times the size of the manta, so I think the only way to put a crashed bioship onto a table would be to actually make a table out of the ship. BTW, alta, what happened to that epic table?

Wow, nice investigative work!

Space is pretty big: Now that's a great idea! I'll seriously look at a portion of the crashed ship across the table...no wider than 4' so it can fit at the end of a table nicely if I decide to use it for Planetstike games or the like. I love the idea of moving across parts of the 'dead ship'.

Alta: 60" or so seems reasonable, although I'll probably have only about 48" or so on the table so it will fit on the short edge (as discussed above).

really it just depends on how big you want to build it. I helped make a crashed Black Templar ship for my local GW...




it fits nicely in a single table tile, gives a great objective and still leaves enough room to fight on the table. when discussing it from a fluff perspective, we decided it was a crashed scout ship.

I should take some photos of the finished version.
