What did you use for the mud? I'm looking for some ground looking terrain.

Actually my method came from mini wargaming, and is surprisingly easy. Although you said mud and I'm not sure this is what your looking for if your going for mud.

But here's what you do. Make paper machete out of toilet paper, so put water, toilet paper and white PVA glue in a pot and mix until you have a paste, but I like to leave a few lumps. Then when the paste has been made apply it to your base and wait for it to dry. When dry 'tada' the perfect ground effect, just add paint.

Although if your looking for a good mixture for mud I have a recipe for that as well. A guy from GW used this method and I thought the effect was very good, although I have yet to try it. Here's what you do, mix plaster, PVA glue, sand and brown paint, he also mixed some pigment powders in there but said that those are not needed he just likes the extra effect. Mixing this should form a very thick paste allowing you blob it onto bases and terrain. He then pushed the model into the paste that he had applied to the base and some rocks and other junk when he thought it was necessary. Because of the ingredients in the paste the model or whatever you push into it will stay put and be very solid.

Looking back, I guess it was the shinyness of the pic that made me think mud. One method I've found for mud is to make paper mache out of flour instead of glue. I'm not sure what the guy did, but it looked damn good.
