How to build the guts of a hiveship - easy?

I would like to start doing some boarding actions ala Space Crusade, or whichever game it was where the space marines were crawling around inside a nid hiveship. I also do not want to spend a million dollars and a million years doing this.

Does anybody have any ideas for a quick way to represent this, but still in 3d?

i notice really cool deigns can be done while holding a lighter to some styrofome. its easy to make cool grooves and shapes-perfect for nid hallways....and them maybe add some greenstuff here and there alond with some nid bitz to make it even more niddy.....better yet cover the bottoms of the hallways with water effects dyed the colour of your cracks and rib-cage-dents on your nids.

that or use spray paint to melt the foam which will dye it partly the color of the paint and of the foam so like a blue and green slimey hallway kinda thing ;D

well which ever of the two you pick, I recommend wearing full body overalls - gloves as well and a face mask if you are using sprays.
Plus the most important thing -- do it OUTSIDE or under a good extractor fan or you will gas yourself

Overmind is correct, burning Styrofoam or similar types of material will as a by product produce very toxic gas which you should avoid breathing. Definitely consider getting a face mask that can protect you from chemical fumes and vapors, preferably one with a high grade replaceable filter(s).

Sprayable expanding foam insulation can also give some excellent Niddy results. I've not used it myself, so I can't recommend any specific brands, but I've seen a number of Nid terrain pieces done with it, most of which looked really cool

Well you could build a normal space hulk layout without vents or engines etc. Then melt some of it with a blow-torch (sounds like fun to me, too bad me folks wouldn't let me ) and then it will probably look organic.

I've heard of this stuff, but don't know how it's used. I would assume it requires some kind of machine to spray it?

As far as I know, it comes in a can, more or less like spray paint. Just point and click, then let it foam up and harden. I think there are more hardcore industrial variants that do require special equipment and such, but I'm pretty sure there's a simple form out there as well.

trying ripping up some old star wars toys so you don't have to GS all of the circuitry. you can find plenty of that Star wars stuff at garage sales in the spring.

you just got to wear a mask or do something to keep the gas from the can to getting to you because you use alot of spray paint to melt it (i used a can for a two foot circle that was an inch deep) but other than that no ;D

You should consider using ribcages from turkey carcasses for hiveship galleries.

Taking that approach would require that you clean, sterilize and seal the ribcage before using it. Certainly possible, but it would be rather messy work.
