Excellent stuff! Nice use of NMM too, especially on the dwarf's axe. Makes me want to find my old copy of WHQ from my Dads house and see what I can do with the models :)

amazing work, that must have taken you a long time to paint up a model to that standard

Wow I havnt been on the hive in ages o.0

Great work as usual Gareth, though I must say the colours seem a little flat, almost like you took a basecoat colour an added white to it gradually layering up. Although, since they are painted at such a superb level, I can't really complain. Maybe it was the look you were going for...

You did a great job on the NMM by the way.

but sorry to sound like a noob but what does NMM mean?

NMM = Non Metallic Metals.

Its funny really, because everyone is wrong. I used metal paints, just shaded and highlighted them in the correct way.

I couldn't disagree more. The models have been shaded and highlighted in a very natural way to give these flat 1 piece plastic models a 3D quality. If you're talking about the colours being dulled down and flat, then I would say that is completely deliberate. They're fantasy warriors not carnival clowns. Most of the colours were custom mixed (skin, dwarf beard, elf clothes etc). I didn't just highlight up using white either.

So yes it was the look i was going for, I guess you can't see it though.

Yeah all he did was apply principles of NMM and reflection to metallics...something that I feel you don't see enough of in miniature painting since NMM is all the rage.

Well, it definately works. I'm not a huge fan of metalic paints myself, as I think they tend to look kind of tacky, but Gareth has obviously prooved that with a little work you can make them look really good!

Sorry...? I didn't mean in it a bad way, they look great. Just giving my bit of [constructive] critisism. If I simply say the bare minimum (they are golden demon quality) then that really doesn't help much; it's encoraging, but not helpful. Please take no offense oh great one.

I think what I meant was more around the lines of all the colours are highlighted to the same 'level', and that they needed an eye-catcher (example: the gem on the ranger caught my eye).

And here we have some (more) amazingly painted models. I love how you did the rust, especially on the shields. How did you do that? On the shields, I would think that you painted the rust and then went over it with copper.

1. RUST. Base coat of a 50:50 mix of snakebite leather + blazing orange. Shade with devlan mud. Paint on blazing orange stippling, then the metal chips.

2 COPPER OXIDATION . Paint brazen brass. Then mix 50:50 Hawk Torquise + Scaly green and a tonne of water and wash liberally all over, use your finger to wipe the wash off the top. ONce dry shade with devlan mud, once that's dry use a mix of 75% hawk torquise with 25% scaly green and a small amount of water and run it sparingly into nooks and crannies.
