thanks for the info nard! i'll give that a try when i start painting the bases
@alexonian: i used squid pink from vallejo as the basecoat for the carapace. then used carnal pink from P3 is as the feathered highlight. to make the carapace pop even more, im going to feather a very thin line of skull white at the edge for the 3rd highlight.

I think the two "light" colors will work perfectly fine if you do a wash over the bodies to color in the "flesh" parts, and detail the tongue/teeth/eyes.
I painted mine too dark and now adding subtle detail is very difficult, with lighter base colors detailing is much more noticable.

just started painting some termagaunts and went for a slightly darker flesh color for them. not really liking this darker blue flesh than the lighter blue flesh on my hormagaunts though. what are your thoughts? should i use the darker blue flesh, or keep the lighter blue flesh?
also, this is WIP piece; still gotta go over all the extra bits for this.

i think i was just too eager to try out the new scheme to see if it would work out, but after seeing the darker blue termies in a brood, i think i'll be sticking with the original light blue flesh for the rest of my termagaunts that are waiting to be painted up
i guess i could use these as an easy way to tell my starting gant troops, and my tervigon-spawned gants.
any thoughts or comments?

I really like the colour scheme. It seems to work! I'm not a fan of the purple guns though. I would have done them in a bleached bone equivalent so they don't detract from the main colours you are using. For the exposed fleshy bits on the arms and legs... I'm not sure. Would it be wrong to do them the same colour as the carapace? I like the red tongues

I think both look good (and I personally like the purple/red bits), but I have to say I like the lighter blue just slightly more. I'd love to see a side-by-side of completed in each though.

woah, wasnt expecting a necro of this thread. but speaking of, im actually working on some more tyranid models under the same lightblue/pink color scheme for the nov-dec painting competition! im currently working on the trygon and a few elites, but i'll def start working on my flyrant next, deadlink97
