 My slow Tyranid project
« Thread Started on Mar 31, 2012, 10:05am »

Hi there all.
I started a plog on another website and i found this awhile ago and it seems great that its dedicated to Tyranids.
I have painted minis for years and i had a long break from the hobby, i moved countries and had a couple of kids aswell so i was busy with real life stuff.
And i have never had a 40k army before and I when i had the urge came back to start again I went for the nids. Im a slow painter but when i get some minis done i will keep updating this thread.
I looked at hoards of photos of real life bugs when i started this project and they worked as an inspiration for my nids.
So here are some photos.

First up is my Lictor, this was my test mini.

second mini i painted was this Fex
[image]

and i bought 50 of the old style stealers on Ebay and i have painted 10 so far..

Here is a wip photo of the bases
[image]

And this a a wip Tyrant and i still need to get a round base for it.

I have also started a Tervigon and its base.

Cheers guys and I hope you like em

Looks good. The colors make me think that a lot of those photos were from the true bug and beetle varieties. Those categories have a lot of monochromatic brown insects in them. Could we get a more close-up shot of something for a better idea of detail work in these?

Love the nice, simple colors and the pretty basework. The carapace colors/shading reminded me of sea turtle shell (oddly specific, but eh.) and I approve.

sure ziyousansz i will take some close up photos and I have also painted some more on the the Tervigon and her base. At the moment I dont have alot of time painting I try to squeeze in like 1 hour of painting a night.I seem to buy more minis than I can paint but i think that is a common problem.I will take some photos tomorrow and add them here.
Thanks for looking

Awesome. I love the bases.

When I saw the first pic, I thought, 'Yup. That's a camo lictor.' but then I saw the rest and I realised it was just your scheme...

...unless all your Nids are camouflaged... hint hint!

Good job, maybe you could get some daylight pics. The light you are using makes them a little orange, but I think it looks awesome.

Love everything except the flesh on the beasties, seems a wee bit flat and "bland" to me :/
could probably use some deeper shading and/or a further highlight

mind you that is just my opinion and photos look way different than the models do in person

keep up the good work

Thanks for all the nice comments! it keeps me motivated indeed.
1 day to late but here i got some new photos, some are close ups and
i have some early wip photos of the Tervigon and its base.
First up is some close up of the fex and stealers and they area bit orange.
They minis themselves are a bit boring just brown ,reddish and yellowish tones.
So I try to add more color to the bases, enough rambling and on to some pics.

And here is the base for Tervigon, I will add tufts and add more debris once the mini is on the base plus finish the "root".

just 2 layers of airbrushing on the pregnant "lady"

Sorry about double post but i did some more painting.
Just a question for you guys, I have started to paint the "incubator" sac on my Tervigon.
It is kinda hard to see on this photo but the veins are more apparent in real life.
I want some opinions before I paint more , they are kinda time consuming.
Thanks for looking and please tell me what you think.
Cheers

Ugh the painting goes agonizingly slow..
I have some new photos here I dont know if you guys are interested in wip ones but i post some anyways
at least you can see that I'm making progress.
I kept doing the veins , i think it will look good on the finished model.

Wow. Even though it's "only brown", it looks good. Your bases are very beautiful and really detract from your Nids, which is pretty good.

Question: Which colors did you use?
