So I have made a drop bug list. This causes the problem what to use for my spores. The lovely staff at my local GW would love to have seen me convert up and bug-i-fy a space marine drop pod but for 5 Spores this could be a bit expensive.
So I went out to make a cheaper alternative. As Easter is coming up soon lots of craft stores have these foam egg shapes.
I picked up 10 of these for $5. (Extras for experiments/failures!)
I also grabbed a hot glue gun and a large amount of hot glue.
Then it dawned on me these eggs would need a base, I could run out and spend a silly amount on those oval bases or I could improvise.
I went around my house and found a few blank CDs, promotional DVDs, and other junk discs. These would be my base!
Total cost <$40
I began by cutting the egg so that it was on about a 45 degree angle, I used some hot glue to attach the egg to the disc. I also chipped away the bottom of the leading edge of my now spore as to make a cavity for the bugs to crawl out of.
Once the egg was attached it was a simple case of using lots of hot glue to make it look slimy and grotesque, heck slime is a great heat absorber for planetary entry right?
Then I gave it a spray undercoat. I sprayed it so that the few bits of the spore that weren't covered in hot glue got slightly eaten away by the spray paint, it provided a little bit more bug-like texture. Once dried give the foam bits a hand prime.
Paint it to fit your army, rinse and repeat as many times as needed for your army then bam! A cheap good looking Mycetic Spore.
Covered in all its Hot Gluey Glory!
Primed (The Green Stuff was to cover a bit that wasn't just right)
Base Coat and a light Highlight
My 5 Spores in Different Stages of Completion.
