More Plastic Zoanthropes! (pics updated)

ok so I got a few requests for a tutorial. Unfortunately I do not have any more spare warrior bodies or trygon head carapaces (I'd be willing to trade stuff for either, I have some necrons warriors and imperial guard that I'd trade for some or both of the needed pieces, PM me if you want). Also, I will gladly take donations for the good of the hive.

uh... barring a tutorial which i do not currently have the resources for I'll try to give you a quick run-through.

need:
warrior mouth
warrior torso
warrior tail
Trygon Head carapace
Greenstuff

glue the body together, dip the tail in boiling water for a minute or so and bend it more like a "J" shape

throw a big blob of greenstuff roughly in the shape of a shrunken zoanthrope head onto the bottom of the trygon head carapace. make sure you suspend the mouth in there somewhere (you may want to press it onto the warrior body just to get a notch to attach it to later)

once it dries roll out a few really long really, really thin pieces of greenstuff. curl and curve and stack them onto either side of the head from about half-way (down the head, opposite the mouth; see real zoanthrope) in brain-like patterns. This should pretty much cover the entire back, half of the thropes head (minus the underside).

once that dries, roll out a few (thinner) pieces of greenstuff to make the sinew that covers the brain and try to form it similar to the directions you see it on the real zoanthropes. Once you have them in place, Use a sculpting tool to gently flatten out the sinew. Texture as needed.

flatten out a larger piece of greenstuff and (about the wideness of a paintbrush shaft) and attach it to the back of the head (this will separate the two sides of the head and provide a spot of the nubs you see on a z-thrope). This piece should be blended onto the bottom of the carapace and extend to the front-underside of the head. Press 3-4 small notches into the back... this will be used for the nibs.

This would be a good point to put a small blob of GS in the crater at the top of the warrior body and attach the head, Once it's stuck on, use a sculpting tool to smooth the transition from the body to the head.

make 3-4 small squarish nubs and either attach them directly to the GS (or superglue them if dried) to the notches you made earlier... that would then be used for the nubs, which you just made.

roll out 4 more GS rolls, roughly the thickness of the end-portion of a warrior tail. Attach them to each side of the zoanthropes head in roughly sideways "Y" formation (the two tails should be touching and parallel touching the area where the brain-matter is being encased. they should remain together until they get to the mouth, at which point one should angle upwards slightly, and the other one downwards. use a sculpting tool to gently push a series of noches into these 4 rolls to get that ribbed hose-like structure at the front of a zthrope head. the last three bumps (closest to the mouth on the bottom of each hose-pair) should get some sort of pencil or sharp, pointed sculpting tool (I used a dental pick bought from ebay) jabbed into it to form the 6 breathing holes found on zoanthropes.

you're pretty much done with the head and body.

now take some really small balls of greenstuff and fill in the arm & leg slots. following that, roll out 6 short, fat pieces of GS (these will be the upper and lower arms so size it accordingly. I want to say about a half inch or so. Bend each in half to make a close "V" shape (or any position youd like the arms). Attach these to the 6 limb-holes. Use a sculpting tool to flatten the bottom half of each arm section (this will give you flat plane, which you then poke 3 holes into). In addition, press in the spot where the V is curves back in order to make the elbow joint.

Now roll out 6 GS "cones" (one side fat one side skinny) and attach them to the end of each arm. These will be their atrophied talons so size them accordingly. attach them to the end of each arm and use the sculpting tool to flatten out the top of each talon slightly, this will be where you put more of the holes in the arm with the pointy tool.

You're done. Basically just look at a picture of a zoanthrope while reading this and it will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. just try to mimic the model as best you can.






(this is actually pretty easy you just need to practice and figure out crafty ways to mimic different structures)

Nerfed? Getting arguably the best ranged anti-tank weapon in the game and drop pods counts as nerfed?
