Hello Hive!
So with the school year over, I turned towards my neglected grey miniatures, sitting all unpainted and unloved, and decided that I needed to fix that issue. So this summer I vowed not to buy and new stuff until I have built all my unbuilt guys, painted all my unpainted guys and touched up all my poorly painted guys.
I figured I would make a blog out of this, so that I can get feedback from you guys and also so that I'm motivated to finish all my painting and post regularly. I'll try and get a few pictures up every 2 or 3 days, some WIP some finished. I hope that this blog forces me to paint a little bit every day so that I can meet deadlines and post stuff as quickly as I can.
So without further ado, THE LIST:
Unpainted 24 Hormagaunts 13 Genestealers 1 Flyrant 3 Shrikes 1 warrior 1 Lictor
10 Dire Avengers 10 Guardians 1 Warlock 6 Swooping Hawks 5 Howling Banshees 1 Falcon
10 Kabalite Warrios 10 Wytches 8 Reavers 6 Hellions 1 Venom 3 Raiders 1 Ravager 4 Trueborn 1 Razorwing Jetfighter
20 Ork Boyz
12 Planetary Empire Tiles
Unbuilt 1 Ork Buggy 5 Hellions 1 Trueborn 10 Kabalite Warriors
*pant pant* yea, I'm far behind. Not to mention that I have some things to touch up on almost every model that is painted (claws, eyes, etc.)
So i hope to get pictures up of my paint schemes and my painted things by Monday or Tuesday, and start painting the unpainted stuff around then too.
I hope you enjoy this summer blog and I will always be open to C&C on anything
Thanks a lot Hive Cheers

Hello Hive!
So I have the first few pictures for the blog today; the colour schemes for my armies and two Hellions i painted up yesterday. I tried to pick the models from each army that i painted up the best, but some of them still need some touch-up work before i would call them "Done". So here they are:
First my Hive Tyrant. I took a picture of the back too so that you can see how i paint the carapace
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00084.jpg)
and the back
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00085.jpg)
An Eldar Warlock. My inspriration came from the Yme-Loc Craftwrold:
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00087.jpg)
And my old school Lelith Hesperaxe. I had to break off her arm to paint some stuff, but she is probably my best done model to date.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00086.jpg)
So those are the schemes ill be painting the models i get as. I have no clue what i'll do for the Boyz i'll have to paint up, but im sure i can find something i like.
Now for the Hellions. I have two pretty much done, but im open to any suggestions from the Hive on how i can make them better. I'm not sure how good this camera is going to be for getting pictures of miniatures, but I'm in the process of building a light box so that the colours work better. Here are the two Hellions so far:
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00091.jpg)
I got two more pictures, more focused on the free hand graffiti on teh skyboards. The designs are giving me quite a hard to time to make them look right, but im slowly getting better.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00092.jpg)
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00093.jpg)
So thats all for today. My regular posts wont be nearly this long, but i wanted you guys to get a feel for how ill be painting my models over the next two months. As always, C&C are super helpful!
Thanks a lot Hive! Cheers
*Edit - wow those pictures are big. Any way to get them smaller so the page doesn't take so long to load? this would get messy when i start to post more. Thanks

i like the colors on the nids, but i think you would do very well with some more layers of shades in the carapace, and maybe a wash on the skin just my two cents really.
if you wanna see a (not that good) example, you can check out my tyrant in my painting blog, link is in the signature

Hello Hive!
@cloneman - i agree. My nids were the first models i ever painted, so i was happy to just have two shades but now i want them to blend a little more.
I have two more Hellions done and pictures of my Helliarch/Baroness (im using a female body cause i liked the pose) conversion The rider isn't done yet, but I've made her board all up and painted.
So, the first 4 Hellions of my Kabal:
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00094.jpg)
Here is a close up of my latest board art, which i think is my best so far. The picture doesn't do it credit, but the lines were really crisp and straight on this one. I could not for the life of me find his flying base, so at the moment he is "Gimpy - The sledding Hellion"
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00095.jpg)
And now the Helliarch/Baroness' board. I made it out of spare Hellion and Reaver bits. The wings and body are left overs from a box of Reavers, and the little engines between are actually the phantom grenade launchers for the Helliarch, though i don't know if ill use them as that. The gun is a single splinter carbine from the Reavers, and i added a Genestealer skull (from the genestealer box) on the front for some added flare and to take away from the blandness of the front.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00096.jpg)
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00097.jpg)
I'm going to paint up my baroness/Helliarch and one more Hellion before i move on to my next project - Swooping Hawks
As always C&C are so helpful! Thanks a lot Hive! Cheers

Hello Hive!
@deathnid - Thanks! I'm really happy with my colour choices for my Dark Eldar, and the orange is a perfect highlight but it still fits the rest of the scheme
and speaking of Orange Eldar, I have 4 Swooping Hawks done that i wanted to post before I take off for the rest of the day.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00098.jpg)
They are old school Swooping hawks, which don't have poses quite as dynamic as the new ones, but they still look not to bad in my opinion. The bases are just white because i couldn't think of a good choices and went with the lazy "They are just standing on the white floors of a craftworld" approach. Or i guess it could be snow...
Here's a close up of the one i thought was the best painted, just to show some of the details. I have two more of these guys to paint and ill probably get the last of the Hellions up in the next post as well.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00100.jpg)

Hello Hive!
So I've finished the last two Swooping Hawks! and my Baroness! I'll also conclude this update with some pictures from a 5th edition battle I had today between Tyranids and Eldar. It was a great game, although I got my butt handed to me xD
So first we have the Swooping hawks. I actually enjoyed painting these guys a lot because the golden mouth piece and white around the eyes actually made them look bird-like. Here's a picture with them defending a small Eldar relic
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00101.jpg)
And the Baroness. Shes converted from one of the crew from a Raider and then some bits and bobs from other kits. Enjoy these two picture
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00105.jpg)
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00106.jpg)
So, my next project will probably be Tyranid (Hurrah!), but im not sure what yet. I feel i'll be able to get more feedback and a larger response to this blog if i throw up some nids now.
To end off this post, i have three pictures from the Nids vs Eldar game a had today. Nids won brutally, but it was fun none the less (and i may have gotten my girlfriend hooked into playing 40k with me) I wish i had taken a few more close up, action cinematic shots, but these will do for today.
C&C are always welcome!
End of Turn 1
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00102.jpg)
End of Turn 2
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00103.jpg)
Note- It turns out Eldar Rangers don't enjoy dealing with 21 Hormagaunts... who knew?
End of Turn 3
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00104.jpg)
Thanks a lot Hive! Cheers

Always nice to have a plastic grey color. Going to be honest. Your minis look flat, they don't have anything to makes them pop.

Hello Hive!
@ Helonion - I see what you mean, especially with the Eldar. I'm hoping the with better layering on the Tyranid in terms of the carapace will make them look better, and i hope that as i get better with the orange freehand on the Dark Eldar, they will have a little more flare to them. If you have any ideas on how to make them look a little less boring I would totally love them
Of course, today i can't find my camera today. I've been working on my Lictor and a Raider, so ill try and get pictures up soon.
C&C are always helpful Thanks a lot Hive! Cheers

Test model a black wash on the plastic color, and try a blue glaze on the blue gems and red glaze on the red, and maybe even try a red glaze on the helmet of the DE.
Issue with the nids is you are using purple/pink for main skin and blue for secondary colors. They don't compliment each other. But the more I look at the Eldar and DE, may be the same issue. The colors don't work with each other in the colors they are or the placement of where. Try doing online painters or a demo of a dawn of war game and use their painters (preferable soulstorm because you get DE), and see if you can find a more flexible scheme that reflects the nature of that army and makes them look badass.

Hello Hive!
So I've taken the advice I've received and ill be picking up a few new paints on my next GW visit so i can try some washes on my Eldar and Tyranids so try and bring out the details that my painting is leaving out.
Today I have a WIP on the Lictor and a WIP on a Raider.
The Lictor was converted up by my uncle to fit with some "Tyranid Spider Warriors" i built a while ago which have long since been ripped apart for bits. None the less, i live the model cause spiders are very agile and sneaky, quickly running away under a bed to hit and bite you in your sleep... just like Lictors? Sure, why not.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00109.jpg)
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00110.jpg)
And the Raider. I have three of these bad boys and a Ravager to paint, which I'm actually happy for because the large hulls on them give me a lot of room to try my free hand!
There are two pictures from each side, one side is almost 100% done, and the other needs all the detail work and such.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00111.jpg)
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00112.jpg)
I really appreciate the feedback, so C&C please Thanks a lot Hive Cheers

DE: Okay, the orange works, it deff works but the base color is too dark to show any details on that or compliment the orange, and the orange cant compliment it. Down side you may have to strip it to make it look awesome, upside ,you can make it look awesome. Also your free hand is pretty good.
Overall you are choosing too dark of base paints or mix and matching colors that just dont work together. I'll dl a soulstorm demo, you give me ideas of what you want and Ill post some ideas with the info you give me.
Also if you dont want to download the soulstorm demo for an army painter, save this and screw around in paint.

Thanks a lot Helonion! I actually just took the time to hop on Google and check out other Yme-Loc painted eldar, and i see that they have much more orange. I wonder if a heavy red dry brush on the DE would make them less dark? Same with the Tyranids, maybe better layering on the carapace and a more thorough dry brush of Warlock Pink to make them less dark? I know it's kind of lazy, but aside from my DE which are mostly unpainted, i have between 1000-2000 points of Eldar and Tyranids already painted that I don't really want to strip.
Your advice is really helpful, cause i really want to improve my painting skills and broaden my range of techniques.

You could try but I can't guarantee anything. I know if you strip it all we can make a scheme that brings a lot of detail to the mini, is your colors but gives a scheme that feels that army.
Okay, idea. Since its a dark red/purple, you could try and change to main color as a red, not just drybrushing. So think about that.

Hello Hive!
Two minis today I've hit a snag on how i want to paint my Raider, so he is on the back bench for the moment, but in for now i have the Lictor and my first of five Dark Eldar Trueborn! The Trueborn was actually painted by my girlfriend with a few touch-ups by me so it fit the rest of the army.
So first, the Trueborn. For her, i decided that the armor didn't have to be painted like the rest of my Kabal; Trueborn are supposed the be the elite best of the best, so it figured they would all be hired from different Kabals and background and fight together, sort of like the A-team i guess?
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00117.jpg)
This model was made out of a bunch of bits from a bunch of boxes, and the cape is a random bit i got from my uncle. I think she turned out really well, although the hair still needs some texture. I tried something i haven't done before for this model; blending. I don't know if it is obvious in the picture, but she used a darker red for the cape and i then blended a lighter red from the bottom up.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00118.jpg)
The Lictor is a model I'm iffy on. I love the model, but i don't think he turned out too well. Obviously, the parts we not made for a Tyranid model, so they don't really have all the bits and bobs that make a model look niddy. aside from the claws and face, the model was pretty smooth so my heavy pink drybrush didn't pick up as many details as it would on my other nids. Also, the model lacked good areas to paint as carapace, so he doesn't look like he would get a 5+ save.
EDIT: looking at these picture, i see i missed his back little stinger bit and his face could still use a lot of work. Haha of course i notice this AFTER posting the pictures right ?
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00119.jpg)
None the less, i love this guy and i think he will make a few entrances in my army, depending on what i think after getting my hands on some 5th edition rules.
![[image] [image]](http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x469/TheBluMnM/DSC00120.jpg)
I'm not sure what my next project will be, I'm on a Dark Eldar craze, but I cant wait to try the suggested improvements on my Craftworld Eldar and I know people on TTH love to see Tyranids (go figure ).
So, C&C please guys and gals! I would love to hear what you think and it would inspire me to keep painting Thanks a lot Hive Cheers
