 The Ripper Swarms of Scarabus

Hullo hive, it's been a bit since my last painting post. The pictures and models I'm about to show you are a few weeks old. I didn't get around to posting them hot off the worktable because life happened.

In light of the hype over the new rulebook, I thank those of you that have found time to check out this thread. I wish the lighting and quality of the images were better! Without further delay, here are the 10 Ripper Swarms I finished in early June!

Once again, sorry for the drab images! I did my best in photoshop but the lighting that day was terrible (I try for natural sunlight when possible). Sadly it's been cloudy and rainy this week so I couldn't even rephotograph these!

Many people are now commenting on how my nids have a "deep sea" feel to them. I have to agree with them. It wasn't my intent to make them seem like they were underwater, but it's not undesirable, everyone seems to enjoy them. I do regret not putting more interesting terrain on the Ripper bases since I did go for 3 per base instead of 5.

As I usually do, here's an image of all my painted minis. Scarabus is growing! :D

WHAT'S NEXT:

I know many of you are wanting to see me paint up a big bug, that was my original plan after these guys. However, due to some odd circumstance, I'm currently halfway through painting 12 Hormagaunts, so that's what I'll be posting next. While I'm working on painting the Hormagaunts, I've been slowly magnetizing my Warriors, once they're done (and I get more primer) I'll paint those up for you guys to see!

Also some good news! My meager force of 2 battleforces and a Pyrovore has now increased to include 3 Hive Guard! These are courtesy of a friend who bought and sent them to me as a Birthday gift! Those might end up being my next project after the Hormagaunts if the Warriors aren't ready, my friend is itching to see his gift to me painted. :D

Feel free to suggest what bug(s) I should paint next. I'm always open to what you guys want to see next.

That's looking awesome. I love the blue bases, really gives the army an alien feel.

Your scheme is very soothing to the eye. It's one of the better uses of metallics I've seen around here. Keep up the good work!

Cant wait to see your warriors and prime finished up. Again your one of the very few people I have seen that can make metallics work for nids XD.

Love it! I agree the bases of your army really compliment and contrast your army to give it a very alien feel. I could see a whole display board with this on it....

I've never had someone call my scheme soothing to the eyes before! I take that a major compliment! Thank you!

Thanks Drako! The Warriors may be a bit, magnetizing the gun arms is proving harder than expected, but it should be worth it in the end. My Primes might not be all that exciting, since I want them to look enough like regular warriors that I can use them as either. So the only things special about the primes might be the carapace design or something on their base, like a skull.

Thank you! It's one of my goals to have these critters in an Armies on Parade. Once I have room for a board and enough painted models, I'll definitely get to work on it and show the end result. It'll be a challenge (but a good one) to make this blue underwater terrain work over a whole board!

Fantastic. I think the Hive Guard you mention in the post will be a good test for how the metallic scheme does on a larger model--the Hive Guard have so much carapace to be done.

I love the way you get all 3 primary colors into the models in the unique way--blue bodies and bases, yellow (gold) carapace, and the red and orange accent lichen. Nifty stuff.

Cheers.

The primary colour thing was a fluke. I bought a bag of autumn lichen and randomly grabbed the red stuff out of the bag. I didn't think of mixing the red with the other other's in the bag so I'm almost stuck with just the red. We'll see what I do when I'm out of th red lichen and tripping over the gold and brown stuff.

:) I wanted to get thes guys into armies on parade this year, but I need to at least finish an HQ and make up a board. Neither would or should be a rush job. Next year I hope I have enough painted to enter!
