Clonemans hivefleet [now with groupphoto on page3]
« Thread Started on Apr 26, 2011, 2:22pm »

Hey guys!

i have been lurking around these forums for a while now, but i have never had the courage or the models to post something for myself.

This has all changed after i bought a Battle Force and a few extra models, so now youre all going to witness my complete lack of skill :)

im all new to tyranids and 40k, but i have painted fantasy miniatures for a few years (mostly Orcs & Goblins for fantasy).

i'm going to try painting all my Nids before August, since ive been invited to a small tournament in the first week of August.

Critique and comments are as usual more than welcome, since im a newbie at tyranids (and more than simple painting in general).
this post will be updated when i finish some more models!

without further ado, my first tyranid model ever, a trygon prime.

Trygon Prime Front

painted so far:

Trygon Prime
Carnifex
Venomthrope
16 Termagants
8 genestealers
Hive Tyrant
3 warriors

Welcome to the Hive! It's awesome here.

For your first model, that's great. I can see the influence of your fantasy orcs, and the carapace looks great. Good range of shading. The basing also is important; without it, models just look like models.

What models will you do next?

ive primed a carnifex and a venomthrope just now, planning on sitting up all night with them, most likely the thrope first.

Cool man, post them up when they're done!

Leaving the gaunts for a while?

Did you just prime it white and use washes only?

Primed it white, then badab black on the "skin", then a light drybrush of rotting flesh, followed by a light glaze of purple wash.

the carapace is knarloc green with scorpion green and rotting flesh highlight, with a heavy thraka green wash and a layer of glossy varnish.

bone parts is dheneb stone with a watered down (1:1) devlan mud

Fair enough man, know what ya mean. I find I have to ration out the cool stuff because painting gaunts can get kinda oppressive, so I like to spice it up by painting a cool model or brood for every gaunt brood I churn out. I need like 60 gaunts for my army, got about 34 painted so far.... *sigh*!

Anyways, great start. I think a tide of gaunts in this scheme is going to look great.

Oh, ye of little faith! How can you say you have no skill? That's really good! I'd love to see more of your 'Nids when they're done!

And Guidebot, you're over halfway on the gaunts! How long did it take you to do them? It's a good idea spreading the 'good' models out.

Sounds like you don't approve. You don't like washes?

No, I love the scheme. just happy I can guess what washes were used by looking at it. Gives me an idea how to use my washes when I wokr on different schemes.

sat up all night, trying to get the venomthrope done. Im sorry to say that i got a lil shaky and a bit sloppy on the details, after a bit too much coffee, but anyway here it is, my second tyranid model.

I decided to pack the fun stuff away for a while, and do some termagants now :)
