The infected marines could be genestealers, using the 40mm ones as broodlords. You could use guardsmen as normal 'stealers.

I love the idea and to tell the truth thought of it before but was to lazy I specifically thought of it when playing the warhammer related games that people make on starcraft.
On another note that I have wanted to rant on. GW really got the fluff right on the tyranids. I mean the zergs fluff I really don't like. Mostly because the overmind is sentient it can be made afraid and thus make others afraid. I beleive that a predator that you can't stop and can't negotiate with is much scarier then an opponent that all you have to do is cut off the overmind and its cerabrates and you win. That being said Blizzard definitely hit the nail on the head when it comes to looks. I think tyranids are too human in that way. I don't like how the tyranids are holding guns while the zerg are using muscle spazams to shoot spines and acid.
Rant finished
Keep up the great work I'm really looking forward to see more of this.

Blame the Xel'Naga for creating the overmind.

i love the fluff for zerg, that though the overmind is sentient, it can not control its own actions very much, it is a highly sentient being with no free will.

I used the exact same idea on the talons coming out of the backpack
I called mine "Terra Nids", before switching to "Swarm Marines".
Pictures can be found on the board somewhere... If interested, I'll post them later

For a predatory species, Tyranids have awfully clean teeth...

@ KillerCroc I think the Hydras really need that raised spike that comes up behind their head. I love all your work on this so far. Dare you attempt an Ultralisk?

If you get the chance take a look at the Queen from SC2.. a lot of people have thought about making it into a tervigon

The only thing more terrifying than a tyranid attack..is knowing you won't see it when it comes. |

(It's not been a full 30 days since the last post so I honestly think this doesn't count as necro-ing a thread. If the mods decide that it is then i'm sorry about that.)
Now then. I simply must have a tutorial for the zergling scything talons. That is absolutely amazing!

I can hear a voice but I don't want to listen. Strap me down and tell me I'll be alright.. I can feel a subliminal need to be one with the voice and make everything alright... |

Step 1: Take Hormagaunt Scything Talons Step 2: Cut "hand" of at the joint Step 3: swap left "hand" for right "hand" and position them Step 4: done
its really just a horma talon that has had the talon part turned the other way around.
