 A Tryranofex, my take(WIP)
« Thread Started on Aug 14, 2010, 7:17am »

i finally decided to make myself a tyranofex, after going over all the rules and doing a few carifex-sub runthroughs. so far, i like them alot, and i can see myself feilding a few in some situations.

that aside, i wanted to keep mine with a feel very much like the concept art in the book. since 80% of my army conforms to some semblance of GW order, i try to keep the mods and scratches similar.
unfortuantly, i lack any of the WIP shots since i pretty much just slapped him together a few layers of GS at a time, over the course of a weekend. didnt think about it untill the work was done, and the primer was applied.

basicly though, it started with most of a carnifex kit, minus the body itself (used), and half the trygon kit, minus the head and tail (used XD)
using the trigon upper body, and the carnifex lower body the body came together as a hunched over beast that would be dragging itself around. the head was cut in half and i used some plastic tubing from the hobby store to start making a stubby barrel. head was attached to the barrel, and all that was stuffed into the head socket of the body. the barrel was still far too small though (think half size of what i ended up with in the photos below) so it went through several revisions before i got the shape i wanted. it involved grafting a second half-barrel to it brining the size up, and forcing the gun to hang right over the body's chest. this was perfect, since i wanted the gun coming out of the body anyways. the rest evolved from my attempts to cover up the initial GSing and plasticard. afterwords it was easy enough to cut and postion the hind legs, and cut and repostion some scything talons.
once primed, you can't even see the sloppy work. :D

That's going to be one of the best Tyrannofexes that I've seen so far. Great sculpting...can't wait to see this beast fully painted.

ive been doing some painting, and so far so good i think. not sure if im satisfied, but its good enough for now.. lol any comments or critisizims are wanted. im not sure if the smaller carnifex base will work quite so well in hindsight, but its all i got for now. may have to chip in for a mawlock base later.

the base, went for something new this time. more of a lava feild look then the others. didnt fit in quite so well with the others in the desert or scrublands bases, but i wanted to try something new.

Current Ripper Count:
Rippers: 57 (6 full squads plus 3 spawn)
Sky Slashers: 12 (2 6 man squads)

Rippers are fun!! In large numbers they can kill anything...ok, well anything except AV11+...but aside from that they can kill anything if you have enough of them!

god damn he's beautiful, but I've always wondered with this design: how does the poor (please do not swear) eat?

good question.. XD they never do give any reasonable fluff for how these buggers operate.. i would assume theyve ether become good at tossing bodies onto the barrel and letting em slide down the gullet.. or they have some gaunts or something feed em. perhaps theyre only spawned for the battle, and are reconsumed afterwords. they'd have some considerable body mass to digest before it became to weak to be usefull.

This is absolutely gorgeous. A very impressive conversion. It appears to be a bit to big for the base you gave it though.

Next time I would consider turning the middle arms upside down (like in the codex) because it might help the gun look better suspended. However I can imagine you already tried that and chose this instead.

For the rest what can one say, except to give applause.

I want to know how you made that cannon! Looks even better painted! That is how I want mine to end up looking like when I build mine. I want to make the gun/head to be switchable so that I can have a different look for the Rupt, Acid, and FLesh Hive. I think this would be an awesome Flesh hive bit, if you could show or tell me how to make it.
