Game = Annihilation
Deployment = Dawn of War
We had night fighting and he went first.
He deployed across the top of the board.
Edrad trades in for Telekenisis.
For me with Eldrad around i wasnt planning on using much pyschic.
I went for Biomancy on everything thinking endurance and enfeeble could be useful.
I also pulled off iron arm on both Flyrants
Im starting with images from my turn 2 as thats all i recorded.
I deployed 2 units of Stealers hiding behind the building to the left. They were blos at the time.
2 units in the ruins behind them on the edge ready to run.
I had the other two units behind the wall on the right hand side of the building lower right.
Both Flyrants hid behind full cover of the building lower right.
Turn 1
Eldar:
Firing at my stealers (lower right) from war walker killing 1.
He moved the bikes away from the stealers (top left)
He also took some shots a the stealers lower left in the ruins but failed to kill.
Used his assault move to move the jet bikes back.
In his movement he casted fortune on the seer jets.
Eldrad casts invisbility on his unit.
Tyranids:
Pull off Iron Arm on both Flyrants passing tests on 3d6 1 gets +1 S/T, Other +3.
I cast endurance on the green squad top left and pass.
I leave pyschics at that as felt i used up my luck.
I run like hell with every squad i have to get as close as possible.
My aim is to keep those wraith guard busy and flood him with targets.
I swoop both Flyrants up as far as they will go.
I shoot at what was bikes where the 3 red splats are and force the other to run failing brainleech morale check.
I tried the same with the other Flyrant on the blue bikes killing one but they stood firm.
I tried to assault with green top left into purple seer council jets,
I was overwatched in the face and ended up too far out to charge.
Turn 2
Eldar:
He casts Fortune and Invisibility again on the same units.
Moves his blue bikes forward along with the wraith Guard, Walker and Fire Dragons
Red bikes far right move out to get a shot off.
War Walker grounds the Warlord Flyrant and takes a grounding wound.(where the big red slat is.)
Wraith Guard finishing him off with an ID wound.
Blue bikes do some shooting but fail to kill.
Red bikes on right kill a Stealer.
The image represents end of his Turn 2.
Tyranids:
I fail my reserve roll for the Trygon.
I proceed on moving units in the direction of the wraithguard and towards anything i can kill in assault.
Flyrant Swoops just above the Wraith Guard.
Flyrant fires at the red jet bikes hoping to send them running also.
I kill 2 and they pass morale.
Assault
Try charging with white based Stealers, get overwatched and they fail their charge.
Try charging with orange Stealers, get Overwatched (game mistake) losing a stealer but they make the charge.
Charge red based Stealers on the right into Fire Dragons and thankfully no wounds from overwatch.
Try charging black into Warwalkeer, no OW kills and fail the charge.
Orange assault with wraith gaurds leaves 2 Dead Guard but the Genestelers die horribly.
My plan to keep that wraithguard occupied had failed. (lesson: Invisibility is harsh and dont over expect from fleet
with charge).
Red Stealers murder the Fire dragons.
Turn 3
Eldar:
He gets Fortune and Invisibility off again.
All bikes move forward and into shooting positions against the Flyrant and the packs of Stealers heading for the
wraithGuard.
Shooting:
Second Flyrant bites the dust again to Wraith Guard and Walker.
I loose a few more stealers from the bikes shooting.
Eldar move all bikes back from the stealers.
Tyranids:
Trygon comes in, scatters slighty but still behind the WarWalker where I wanted him.
I move all Genestealers into possible charging ranges of their closest opponents.
Shooting:
Trygon Wrecks the warwalker, what a hero!.
Assault:
I then proceed to make all of my charges, Only fail with Black Stealer on red bikes
White and Blue into the Wraith Guard/Eldrad, bit of a stalemate, Tyranids pass LD.
Green into blue bikes which get murdered.
Red into Farseer jet bikes. Broodlord challenges Farseer and puts to wounds on him with none in return.
Other red Stearlers kill purple 2 bikes.
Against Guard and Eldrad, I lose 4 Stealer (due to invisbility and charging into terrain) and manage to put a wound on Eldrad.
Both units (white and blue) pass LD.
Turn 4
Eldar:
Remaining red Bikes zoom down the right.
Assault:
Broodlord kills the Farseer.
Red GeneStealers kill remnaing purple Bikes.
I loose 1 Broodlord in comabt with Eldrad and Wraith Guard.
Pass LD.
Tyranids:
(I forget Synpase check for Trygon not that I think it would of mattered).
I move black Stealer towards red Bikes.
Everything else moves into assault range of his Invisible squad of annoyance.
Everything makes it into combat.
Stealers kill the red bikes.
I start with the Broodlords and the Stealers but at this point my partner and I agree to end the game.
Final Score:
Eldar:
Warlord
2 Flyrants
1 Unit of Stealers.
=4
Tyranids:
First blood
Farseer
Farseer unit of jetbikes
4 units of Jetbikes
Warwalker
Fire Dragons
=9
What did i learn from the game?
Don't over rely on charge distance, sometimes its better to run.
Broodlords are epic, they soak up lots of fire with LOS and their 4+/3 Wounds.
Flyrants do their job well, although they don't survive long they buy you that time for the Stealers to get into action because they are quite a considerate threat.
Im not convinced with the Trygon, he can put down pretty much anything and is a massive threat but he aids against certain lists and not others.
I'm likley to try Doom in place of the Trygon and give as many Stealers as I can Toxin Sacs to help me deal with high toughness (Wraith Guard SM/Nob Bikers etc..).
Do I think this is a good list?
It has a lot of psychic potential (Objuration Mechanicum, Terrify, Enfeeble, Endurance, Telekine Dome, Iron Arm) which can be tailored to certain lists. 16 rolls on your chosen Dicipline table is nice.
It can overrun a lot of enemies and deal with pretty much anything. It doesnt need the pyschic rolls to perform.
Its very fast paced, I actually held back more than i needed to in my deployment agaisnt this match up. I should've had my stealers in the fights sooner.
It will possibly stuggle going second againsta more shooty army like Necrons/Orks/Guard.
Mostly in 6'th people seem to be leaning way more towards flyers, phychics, and the shooting element. Having a mainly CC focused army I think helps you agaisnt the forming meta...i guess we will see...
